Club Beginnings

The Indy Swing Dance Club (ISDC) began due to the efforts of four talented individuals. Cary Pettit, Diana Robertson, Don and Jean Kingen each had a unique talent to contribute toward the formation of the club.

He and Diana found that there was a need for a West Coast Swing (WCS) club...

Cary was an experienced teacher whose desire was to model a club that brought dancers together in a forum that focused on social rhythm dancing. He and Diana found that there was a need for a West Coast Swing (WCS) dance club in Indianapolis. They sought the expertise of established swing clubs in the Midwest, getting their input and support. The area dancers were then surveyed and it was found that there was plenty of interest to start a swing dance club. The idea had begun!

Next they enlisted the support of Don and Jean Kingen. They were avid WCS dancers who lived nearby in Columbus, Indiana. Don and Jean's D.J. Skills and ability to teach dancing were a perfect match. Each of these four contributed their own individual talents to make this undertaking a success. They made plans for the club with great enthusiasm and excitement. It all began with the "kick-off" dance that took place February 6, 2000. The rest is history.
